Writing Your First Book

So you decided you want to write a book. Yay! Go for it! You'll regret it if you don't.

But you don't know where to go from here, right?

Well, start simple. Come up with a title for your story. You will most likely end up changing it later, but it gives you somewhere to start. It can be as simple as one word or as complex as you decide to make it.

Then, come up with your characters. Find their names, think up what they look like, how they act, discover their personalities. Put yourself in your characters shoes. Go with your gut. If the names you chose for your two main characters just don't sound right together, change it. I've done that so many times its not funny. If it doesn't feel right, I change it. Fun Fact: Deacon and Violet. Violet was always the name for her, but it first started out as Beau and Violet. It felt wrong, and instead I made it Deacon and Violet , and Beau is their friend.

Pick your genre. Is it romance? Drama? Erotica? SyFy? Mystery/Thriller? Werewolf? Vampire? Dystopian? Historical? Humor? Horror? Whatever genre you pick, make sure you choose it because that's what YOU want to write about and not what you think everyone wants you to write about. Write for you.

Next, discover your plot. What is your book going to be about? Don't worry about being cliché or anything. A lot of things have been done before, but they haven't been done by YOU. ----- That being said, don't be a troll and steal someone else's hard work. We work hard on our books and they are special to us and no one wants their work stolen. There is a difference from writing something that is similar to another book and stealing someone's story, changing it a little and claiming it's yours.

Write your first sentence. You have to start somewhere, right!? Even if you only write one sentence in a week, it's more than if you hadn't done anything at all! Work your way up to the first paragraph. Then before you know it, you'll have a whole chapter done and will be eager to write more!

And finally, be proud of your book and yourself.

HAPPY WRITING!
